Manchester Circular is a 17km, 10 mile or 22,000 step walk around the city centre, mostly along pedestrianised streets, footpaths, parks, green spaces, secret passageways and sometimes through buildings.
It would take about 5 hours to walk the whole route, stopping briefly to admire the landmarks, architecture and obligatory selfie. Of course you don’t have to do it all in one go, maybe you’re staying in town for a few days, visit on a regular basis or just looking to explore the city in your lunch break.
There are 390 listed buildings and structures in Manchester City Centre Ward, 11 Grade I (highlighted in bold on the route description and yellow on the map) and over 40 II* listed.
This walk takes in all the Grade I listed buildings, many of the Grade II* listed buildings and lots of Grade II listed buildings and structures, some you will never have noticed before or thought they were worthy of being listed.
It’s not just about the stunning architecture, we’ll travel back in time to Mamucium founded in AD 79 by the Romans, through the Medieval Quarter, the Industrial Revolution to the modern day skyscrapers.
We’ll explore the massive music history, traditional pubs and lots of quirky bits and pieces that makes Manchester, Manchester (Manc accent optional).
